The Claims Process in LA's Workers' Comp System is riddled with hurdles, traps and pitfalls.  Navigating this process correctly while also avoiding the added exposure of attorney fees and penalties is a struggle for employers. The four sessions of the seminar will deal with the numerous nuts and bolts of daily claims management. 
 
 
Preventing Penalties and Attorney Fees
 
Everyday, claims handlers subject themselves to judicial scrutiny.  A myriad of adjuster decisions will be discussed, each one either saving or controlling costs or causing expensive consequences.
 
Calculating Average Weekly Wage  
 
One of the first steps in setting up a claim is calculating the Average Weekly Wage.   There are dozens of ways to compute this number, making the chances for mistakes great.  This session will cover several methods and provide numerous examples for proper calculation.  
 
Recent Jurisprudence
 
A review of 2009 and 2010 appellate decisions will touch on a wide range of workers' compensation issues.  Insight into judicial interpretation of our Compensation Act will also be provided. 
 
Navigating the Dispute Resolution Process   
 
The litigation process has more than its share of rules, regulations and procedures.  We will follow the process from A to Z. Receive a perspective on the component parts of the litigation and their intended role in the system.
